First things first, I'd like to wish you all a very merry Christmas! Secondly, I've been doing some more painting on Thranduil, whose base is now completed. I'm incredibly pleased with how it's turned out, despite the fact that it took several days to finish. Most of that time was taken up painting the inlaid gold patterns, which ended up needing several attempts before I was happy with them.

Firstly, sorry about the lack of updates recently, I was in Oxford for interview! While I got back last week, I've been fairly busy catching up with stuff I missed. I finally got my hands on the new model of Thranduil (thanks to the wonderful Games Workshop Oxford), and so progress can continue. I also have some superglue now, so I've finished assembling and basing the model, and I can start painting soon. Since finishing Balin I've been doing some preparation work for Thranduil, which has involved planning out and starting his base. As you can see, I've been using the vampire as a placeholder since the footprint of the model is fairly similar. The only real difference is in height, since the vampire is a bit taller than she should be. Regardless, she's still fit to build the base around. With the Desolation of Smaug coming out shortly, I've been pressing on with painting some more of Thorin's company. I've now finished Balin and am halfway through Gandalf, both from Escape from Goblin Town. As you can see below, the Balin sculpt is a pretty close match for him as he appears in the Hobbit, and as such he was very enjoyable to paint. |
