I've finally managed to get some pictures of the Commodore so far, I've now basecoated most of the model and I've finished some of the coat. Most of the other colours have been painted quite simply, just to get an idea of how the finished model will look. I've also started painting the base, but I'm not sure if I like the colour or not.
Sadly I haven't been able to get any photos of progress on the Commodore, I've been fairly busy recently. I have, however, managed to do some work on the back of his coat, which I'm rather pleased with, and I'll get some pictures of it soon. My second order from Black Scorpion Miniatures also arrived the other day, a model of Winston Churchill.
I'm pleased to say that I've now finished the commodore's base, and painting on him has now started. In the end I decided to make a simpler banister, and I added a small pile of cannonballs as well. I'll be painting the model in similar colours to Commodore Norrington from the Pirates of the Caribbean, while the base will be in similar colours to the one from the cabin boy which inspired the project.
Rather annoyingly I'm no closer to finishing the Commodore's base, I really want to paint him! In the meantime, however, my old local store have asked to see 'any Tau that have had the "Nelson" treatment'. Since I didn't have any Tau models I picked up a Cadre Fireblade. In the past few days I've also made an account on CoolMiniOrNot, so check it out!
Ok, so there's no rum. Unfortunately, there isn't any progress on the Commodore either. I promised myself that I wouldn't start painting him before I finished the base as I want to photograph them together, but I'm stuck on making the banisters. I'm looking for something similar to the banisters in the picture below, but I have no idea how to make them!
Recently I've been working on the commodore, and I've now finished all of the sculpting and conversion. I also did a bit more work on the base, I've sanded the green stuff around the back smooth. I'm very pleased with how that turned out, and I'll be using it for display bases in the future.
Here are some photos of progress on the commodore's base. The Commodore himself arrived this morning, but I haven't taken any photos of him yet. While waiting for him to arrive I started work on the base. Since this model won't be used for gaming, I can make a more interesting base for him.
The other day I was looking through some online galleries and I accidentally stumbled across the gallery of Martin Footit, formerly an 'Eavy Metal painter. What caught my eye was his cabin boy, made by a company called Black Scorpion Miniatures. Looking through their other models, I ended up ordering a Royal Navy Captain.
Here are some pictures of what I've been working on over the past few days. I'm made some progress on the diorama base, which is now nearly finished. If anyone has ideas about how I could break up the open areas of the base then please let me know. Other than that I've also painted a bit more of Thorin, I'm quite pleased with how the blue areas have turned out.
Here are some pictures of Loken, my favourite of the two models and the main character of the first 3 book in the series. He's definitely my favourite Forge World model in a long time, there's so much detail on the model. One of my favourites is the little X on his shoulder pad marking him out as the captain of the 10th company. Meanwhile, I've made some progress painting the display base, which I'll show you as soon as I can get a photo.
My name is Chris Nelson, I'm a hobbyist. I started around eight years ago with Lord of the Rings as my first system, however I prefer painting to gaming.
